Polar Bears and Global Warming: Introduction

The Polar Bear is an amazing animal that is threatened by their own environment, and what's scary is that it's our fault. We are talking about the polar bears in Antarctica and how global warming is effecting the polar bears lifestyle and even how it effects Earth's.

We asked, and we answered

Our group wanted to know more about the polar bear, how they are effected by what we caused, and how we could help, so we asked these questions and used various sources to answer them.

How does Global Warming Effect Polar Bears?

Global warming has a big effect on the world, it is making the climate of the world increase every year. The ice caps of Antarctica are slowly melting away because of the rising heat. Since the polar bears homes are melting away, they are being stranded in the ocean or left on small pieces of ice.images-2.jpg

What Causes Global Warming?

Global warming is sadly caused by us, because there are so many people driving cars, using air fresheners, washing cars and leaving the soap to go down the drain. Pollution is causing a rip in the ozone layer which protects us from heat. All of this is called green house gases.

What Will Happen to the Polar Bears Living on Antarctica?

Polar Bears are losing weight because there are no more ice caps, which means that there are no more seals for the polar bears to catch. Some even drown from swimming so far from the once frozen ice cap. Polar Bears are slowly losing their homes and thats why we need to help stop global warming.

How can we stop this from happening?

We can all stop global warming if we all work together. Even if we all did little things like turning off the lights when we are not in the room, or putting on a sweater instead of turning on the heater, all these things add up together. If we all participate, then global warming can be set aside. My group and I all agree that if we caused global warming, then we can solve it.

Where are the polar bears going to live after this?

Polar bears live in many places like Canada and Alaska, but mainly in Antarctica, but they need ice because seals live were ice is and that is a polar bears food source.

What is going to happen to Antarctica?

There is a chance that Antarctica will melt away, leaving no home for many polar bears. If we stop global warming, then it's very possible that Antarctica will still be around.

What is under Antarctica?

Scientists believe that land is under Antarctica, but unless polar bears evolve to another form then they won't be able to adapt to the new environment.

How will they survive living somewhere else?

Like I said, unless polar bears adapt quickly the polar bears probably won't survive. Scientists also say that polar bears may grow webbed feet and live in water. The polar bears are burdened because they don't live in many places. Polar bears live in places like the ice caps of Canada, Alaska, but mainly Antarctica.

What percent of polar bears will die after living on Antarctica? What percent will live?

Studies have revealed that polar bears have decreased in numbers by nearly one quarter in just 20 years to around 25,000. Scientists aren't really sure what percent will live.

Will it change their habits in thinking, smelling, eating, mateing, etc.? Tell how it changes their habits.

images-10.jpgGlobal warming doesn't really change many of the polar bears habits, but the amount of swimming that is needed to get back to the ice from the melted ice they were on, makes them very hungry, which is making the polar bears resort to cannibalism. Other than that polar bears are striving to survive and hopefully will.

Our Video

Our Video Tells about Global Warming and how its affecting the polar bears, from the view of The WWF, which is a orginazation that helps endangered animals. It shows what may happen to the polar bears if we do nothing about global warming.
